There is a preschool out in the bush in Maasailand, and the foundation for a primary school is set, awaiting funds to complete this school.  The parents of these students have allowed them to attend this preschool, but will not let them walk the 4 hours to go to the next closest school, but will let them come to this one, if it can be built.  As of now, there are some students who have been in preschool for 4 years.  EDUCATION is their way out.  If they are kept in school, the Maasai look at them differently, and see the children as more worthy.  The children, themselves, begin to think bigger and have more self worth.  Also, with education comes a meal each day they are in school....sometimes being the only meal they will get for that day.

The boys in Maasailand are beaten while they are growing up, in order to teach them to not cry and be strong warriors.  At around 18- 20 years old, they are sent out into the bush to fend for themselves.  They are taught to have no association with women, except for physical.  They are taught how to beat the women and children when they grow up.  They are taught that life has little meaning.  BUT, with EDUCATION, things can be different.  They do not need to go through all this, as they have chosen the road towards other choices.

The girls in Maasailand grow up to be seen as less than cattle.  They are forced to have sex as little girls, until they are about 13 years old, and then they are circumcised and prepared for marriage to a man from a far off village, who will come and get them to marry him, and take her away to a village she has never seen before.  She will live out her life having children and building her houses, and doing anything her husband asks of her.  BUT....with EDUCATION, thinngs can be different.  She can begin to think for herself, and think bigger that she can do more.  She can come back and teach others what she has learned.
